Tap dance classes for local schools

We run curriculum tap classes and after school clubs in North-East and East London. If you would like to see tap dance in your local primary school please get in touch!

  • Tap dance is both movement and music. It’s a great way for children to be active and working on their motor skills as well as developing their understanding of rhythm.

Tap dance is an African-American art form. In class, children learn about black dance history, learn sections of traditional repertoire and get a taste of jazz music.

  • We offer full-day, tap dance workshops for schools! If you would like the children at your school to have a taste of tap dancing, but can’t fit in regular classes, we can arrange for a full-day workshop where classes can each get a 50 minute taster session.

We have tap shoes available for the children to borrow, we just need a space with a hard floor so that they can hear themselves dance.

  • We can provide regular tap dance classes during the school day. Most commonly, our classes take place during a scheduled PE, dance or music lesson. We have a collection of tap shoes for the children to use. We just need a space with a hard floor so that the children can hear themselves dance.

  • We run tap dance after-school clubs for primary schools on Mondays, Thursdays or Fridays.

  • Our tap classes work best for years 3 and up

  • We have a wide collection of tap shoes available to borrow in a variety of sizes.

We are not able to guarantee that every child will be provided for (due to variations in sizing) however we try our best to make sure that as many children as possible have access to real tap shoes. School shoes are acceptable footwear for beginner tap.

  • Both youth classes and adult tap classes are taught by Claire Miller. Claire is a professional tap dancer living and working in East London.

Her work professional work includes improvised performances with live jazz music, collaborations with vernacular jazz dancers and traditional ‘vintage’ choreography. Claire is an alumnus of the Jacob’s Pillow Tap Dance Programme and was part of Tapestry Dance Company in Austin Tx.
