  • Hackney Wick classes are held in Studio 2 at the International College of Musical Theatre in East London. We have a sprung wooden floor, mirrors and plenty of space. Please ring the buzzer at the door on the corner to be let in

STUDIO 2, 68 WALLIS RD, HACKNEY WICK, LONDON E9 5LH

We also have a beginner class at Jacksons Lane arts centre in Highgate

JACKSONS LANE, 269A ARCHWAY RD, London N6 5SS

  • Each week, we will do a tap warm up, some technique or music theory exercises, and learn a piece of choreography that uses our new vocabulary. We will build on our knowledge each week (with opportunities to film and practice at home in between) so that you can really see progress!

  • Please take a look at the video above for some examples of the level in each class. It is possible to switch levels after the first week if you need to make adjustments (space permitting). Here’s a general guide to the level structure:

Absolute Beginner - Perfect if you’re just starting out or are returning to tap and want to go back to basics. This class will give you the tools you need to start shuffling in style.

Advanced Beginner - In this class we go beyond the basics and really get into the groove. The pace of learning is a little bit quicker and sometimes the music is too! This level is for you if you are already comfortable with basic technique such as timesteps, flaps, paddle and roll, and the shim sham, as well as fundamental musical principles such as 8th notes, 16th notes and triplets.

Intermediate - Perfect if you’re looking to advance your technique, musicality and improvisation. This class often includes traditional repertoire.

  • Yes absolutely! A lot of our beginners come without tap shoes at first. The best alternative is a hard soled shoe with a low heel, like an Oxford. These shoes usually make a great sound. Avoid shoes with a spongy sole like some trainers (you will need to distinguish between the ball and heel of your foot) and high heels.

If you would like to borrow shoes during class, please send us a message and we can see if we have your size available!

  • The best clothes to wear are the clothes you’re comfortable in! Make sure you can move around freely and be prepared to sweat a little.

  • Everyone is welcome in our classes! If you have any additional requirements or feel nervous about your first class, please don’t hesitate to message us and we’ll get back to you as soon as possible
