Advanced Beginner Tap
Our Advanced Beginner Tap courses will help you build on your foundations and really get dancing! To join this class, you will feel confident with vocabulary like felaps, timesteps, paddle and roll variations, have an awareness of dances such as the Shim Sham, and be ready to build on speed and complexity in rhythms. This class is suitable for dancers who have attended the Absolute Beginner course multiple times and feel ready for a challenge. Dancers who have studied in the past and are looking to restart their tap journey might find this class a friendly place to land!
Advanced Beginner classes take place at two locations, Wednesdays 7:30 - 8:30pm at the ICMT in Hackney Wick, and Thursdays 8 - 9pm at Jacksons Lane in Highgate. The courses have different material so enthusiastic dancers have the option to take both classes if they wish!
A typical class will start with a tap warm up, and then focus on some technique exercises, traditional foundation sequences like timestep variations and rudiments, and introduce some choreography to tie together what we have learned.
Here is an example of some of the things we have worked on in class so you have an idea of what to expect:
